Musical Studios

(Excerpted from 11/26/2021 Studios at The Mill Newsletter)

Musical studios indeed! I have recently shifted into my 4th space at Studios at The Mill in about as many years. My new spot, conveniently just a move next door, is quite a step up from the tiny cubicle I started with. Studio H is one of the largest on the floor giving me plenty more room to spread out with my many on-going projects. You may not recognize it with a fresh coat of white paint, but for many years, it was beloved artist Bonnie Hull's spot. I appreciate her warm creative vibes that the space still radiates.

An impetus for moving into a larger space, was to launch into sorting, archiving, and exploring art-making possibilities for a trove of memorabilia and documentation of my life. Before I moved from Out East, I culled mountains of material in an effort I dubbed "Recollect, Decollect, Purge", which still left me with ample bins of all sorts of memory-joggers including report cards (from Kindergarten on) to records of camps, trips, schools, divorce, marriages, and other assorted exploits and adventures. Wish me luck!

While sifting and sorting through my past, I continue to look inward, literally. A series of MRI scans have been the basis of a new series of small scale stitched pieces. To learn more about these and other projects, check out Statesman Journal Article by Claire Withecomb. I am so grateful for her insight, curiosity and skill. The online article, with bonus photos is for subscribers only — a good reason to subscribe! I am grateful that they are allowing me to post an image of the article below.

And one more thing... or maybe two. The fabulous Salem on The Edge gallery will be including a few of my new found object pieces in their Small Works show Dec. 1 -24. And, given that the next newsletter won't be until March, please keep your eye out for an exhibition of my work there in February.
